Theory of cross phenomena and their coefficients beyond Onsager theorem

چکیده

Cross phenomena, representing responses of a system to external stimuli, are ubiquitous from quantum macro scale. The Onsager theorem is often used describe them, stating that the coefficient matrix cross phenomena connecting driving forces and fluxes internal processes symmetric. Here we show this intrinsically diagonal when chosen gradients potentials drive their respective conjugate molar quantities in combined law thermodynamics including contributions processes. Various discussed terms present theory. https://doi.org/10.1080/21663831.2022.2054668

RESEARCH NOTE - Virial coefficients of Onsager crosses

Onsager crosses are particles formed by rigidly connecting three perpendicular, elongated rods of length L and diameter D . We have investigated the behaviour of the virial coe cients of Onsager crosses as a function of the aspect ratio L /D of the rods. The interest in these particles stems from the fact that they should exhibit a cubatic liquid crystalline phase in the limit (L /D ) ® ¥ . It...

Fluctuation theorem and Onsager reciprocity relations.

The Onsager and higher-order reciprocity relations are derived from a fluctuation theorem for nonequilibrium reactions ruled by the chemical master equation. The fluctuation theorem is obtained for the generating function of the macroscopic fluxes between chemiostats maintaining the system in a nonequilibrium steady state. The macroscopic affinities associated with the fluxes are identified by ...

Thermodynamic forces, flows, and Onsager coefficients in complex networks.

In this paper the linear theory of nonequilibrium thermodynamics, developed by Onsager and others, is applied to random networks with arbitrary degree distribution. Using the well-known methods of nonequilibrium thermodynamics we identify thermodynamic forces and their conjugated flows induced in networks as a result of single node degree perturbation. The forces and the flows can be understood...

Onsager coefficients of a finite-time Carnot cycle.

We study a finite-time Carnot cycle of a weakly interacting gas which we can regard as a nearly ideal gas in the limit of T(h)-T(c) --> 0 where T(h) and T(c) are the temperatures of the hot and cold heat reservoirs, respectively. In this limit, we can assume that the cycle is working in the linear-response regime and can calculate the Onsager coefficients of this cycle analytically using the el...
